CoreBlox Announces I Have Kids Application on Facebook® and $50,000 Charity Campaign

29 01 2008

CoreBlox™ starts the Penny Campaign to benefit children’s charities.

FRAMINGHAM, MA – January 29, 2008. A new version of the I Have Kids application from CoreBlox, Inc. allows Facebook users to tell family and friends what’s going on in their kids’ lives, while triggering a charitable donation from CoreBlox. CoreBlox is also announcing today that it will donate up to $50,000 to children’s charities through their newly launched CoreBlox Penny Campaign. CoreBlox will give 1 cent to selected children’s charities each time a new user installs I Have Kids on Facebook, and when a current user adds a child or invites a friend who installs the application. Over 2000 users have installed I Have Kids since it was released two months ago.

The first charity to participate will be Children International, a non-profit humanitarian organization dedicated to bettering the lives of impoverished children, their families and communities. Additional children’s charities will soon be added, and users will be able to select one to receive a CoreBlox donation.

“Our Penny Campaign is an effort to reach out to over 62 million active users in the Facebook community to fund and promote charitable causes,” explains Todd Clayton, CoreBlox CEO. “While each user is doing something small, together we can make a big impact to create change for the better.”

“Children International is excited to participate in the CoreBlox Penny Campaign as a way to connect with Facebook users who want to help children living in dire poverty,” states Carole Spencer, Director of Sponsorship Marketing at Children International.

“I love using I Have Kids. It enables me to write mini-blogs from my child’s perspective, to put the latest milestones that they’ve reached and to chart their progress. Not only is this great to send to friends and family but it’s a reminder of what my child was doing when I look back on it. I think it’s a great tool for Facebook,” says Maria, a mother with 2 children in the UK. I Have Kids allows Facebook users to create children’s mini-profiles, track milestones, maintain mini-blogs and growth charts, and be reminded of friends’ kids’ birthdays. Privacy settings give users complete control to determine who can share their kids’ lives.

To install I Have Kids and select a charity to receive a CoreBlox donation, users can go to http://apps.facebook.com/ihavekids?src=ww. Facebook users can also visit the CoreBlox Penny Campaign group page to get campaign updates.

Internet vs media

19 01 2008

app In Canada, there’s something called the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), which prohibits the publication of information by any means. Then if a minor is the victim of a crime, then the media can’t run around saying the minor’s name. We have something similar here in the US and until recently, it’s usually been followed by most media outlets. That is, until the Internet came around. A young girl in Toronto, named Stefanie Rengel, was brutally stabbed by two fellow teens on New Years Day for reasons that are yet unknown. In Stefanie’s case, that’s exactly what happened, as multiple “tribute” groups were created in her memory. People wanted to show their support for her and remember her life together, but what they were inadvertently doing was breaking the YCJA by “reporting” on her death. People are on the Internet more and more and we’re getting our news from it now more than ever in the past. What happens when somebody breaks a gag order by posting about something on their Facebook page? Or writing about it on their blog or away message? What I feel is that this is not the breaking of the law as I think we need to check what kind of the reporting has been done on net by the people. Since it was just a tribute to a girl and just to make the haunting issue alive in public I feel that this should not be a big problem. There was nothing written which was against her personality or which can hurt her image this should not be taken as an issue by the media rather they should support these kinds of deeds which can help to stop these kinds of episodes in future .

Mozer: Another User Friendly Application by Facebook

14 01 2008

Another very cool application that will be satisfying many users. You want to know why and how? Let’s see. It’s called The Mozer and it makes your profile into a mosaic made up of your friends’ profile pictures. For those who are not quite sure what exactly a mosaic is, I’ve provided the useful information about this application which is used by many users. It helps you not to reveal your identity to the public and also makes your wish to add your own picture on your profile. The application is completely easy to use. It makes a mosaic out of whatever picture your profile picture happens to be at that time, so there’s no limit to what you can Moze.

mozer Mozer takes a minute to display the result. It then shows you a high-resolution version of your mosaic and lets you zoom in all the way to the natural size of the profile pictures of the contacts making up your mosaic. You can download the high-resolution copy if you invite 20 friends or medium-resolution if you only want to invite 10.It also shows you the mosaics created for all of your contacts who have also been “Mozed”. It’s really a valuable application as in terms of the security .I eel will satisfy many of the users. After you have used this application .It will give result somewhat as shown in the pic below. It’s a Mozed pic of a user. Check it out!!

Obama Effect: 1Million Downloads Of Facebook Application

9 01 2008

ABC is claiming that more than a million Facebook users have downloaded ABC News’ U.S. Politics application.
In early December, ABC’s Facebook app was being downloaded at a pace of 10k per week; then something happened. Barack Obama’s upset win in Iowa last week? Obama, after all, is the king of Facebook, with 206k "friends" this week, up 19.6% from last week and more than triple Hillary Clinton’s 61k.

Watch out Hilary!

Meanwhile, we are just as surprised by ABC’s ratings for both debates: 9.36 million tuned in for the Democrats and 7.35 million for the Republicans according to media research on what is usually a sleepy Saturday night. Previous attempts to tie youth-oriented web hits like YouTube and MySpace with Presidential politics have generated underwhelming numbers.

Presidential Campaign: The Facebook Way

2 01 2008

fbscreenshot2 Initially the idea was to leverage the social network Facebook and its reach to let people express their views on the presidential fight between Democratic and Republican candidates via the message board on Facebook. However, one can say that coming down to the ground reality one would be better off not talking about it.

Why ? That’s what you would think. Well actually, although the messages have been huge in number with close to 35,000 soundboard messages being out there the key problem is technical in nature. Problems like browser refreshing frequency, with about 1.75 million characters out there ! definitely a real problem.

The opinion from the majority of Facebookers is that Hillary Clinton is "onto Barack like a Rottweiler" one moment and "has about as much experience and common sense as an avacado [sic]" the next. Ron Paul is a "looney" to some, but "the only one who understands economics" and "the only logical and realistic choice," to others.

According to Facebook the entire project has been extremely successful ! The only thing that Facebook wants to solve is the problem of reading/sorting out the Archived ‘Soundboard messages’. Understandably, it is a big mess for all those users who want to scan through what has been said in the past :)
